A trading post built in 1838 on the banks of Spring Creek marked the arrival of American settlers in the area that was to become Spring, Texas. Within two years, the town of Spring had attracted more than 150 residents, most of whom grew cotton, sugar cane and vegetables. Located approximately 20 miles north of downtown Houston, Spring remained a quiet, small town throughout most of the 20th century. However, during the 1970s, Houston experienced explosive growth; many of the neighborhoods and suburbs north of downtown grew at an especially brisk pace. Today, the original town is known as Old Town Spring; Old Town Spring and the area surrounding it became a census-designated place within Houston's extraterritorial jurisdiction. Residents have easy access to Houston, but they can also enjoy shopping in historic Old Town Spring. Due to the area's mild winters and hot summers, residents can also enjoy a variety of outdoor activities. Unfortunately, the climate is also attractive to mosquitoes, so many property owners rely on MosquitoNix Houston to prevent these potentially dangerous pests from feasting on their guests, family members and pets.
Mosquito Misting Systems
The MosquitoNix misting system can reduce the mosquito population in the treated area by as much as 99 percent. The system, which includes a reservoir, pump, motor, control unit, distribution lines and nozzles, is designed to offer maximum effectiveness with minimum intrusion. A timer activates the system, sending a mist through the lines for dispersal through the nozzles. Each misting period lasts between 20 and 45 seconds. Normally, there are between two and four misting periods daily; the first misting period is at dawn and the last misting period is at dusk. A remote control can be used for manual adjustments to the settings, and a backup power system ensures that the misting system will operate in the event of a power outage. A misting system is ideal for private homes, restaurants with outdoor dining areas, pool areas, common areas in residential or office complexes, animal stables, entertainment zones or any other outdoor gathering place.
QuickNix Mosquito Treatment Program
QuickNix is a three-step program designed to reduce the mosquito population quickly and keep killing until the problem resolves. In the first step, MosquitoNix technicians use backpack sprayers to apply an eco-friendly, proprietary liquid that is intended to kill adult mosquitoes. The backpack sprayers have the pressure needed to deliver the spray into the tiny spaces where mosquitoes hide and breed. The second step is spread granules to repel mosquitoes; the proprietary granules are also all-natural. The final step is to place a larvicide in spots where water may collect. Since the Spring area tends to have poor drainage, standing water is a common problem. Most types of mosquitoes prefer to lay their eggs in pools of standing water — even if the pool is quite small and easily overlooked by the average person. MosquitoNix technicians are trained to identify low spots and other areas that allow water to collect. A larvicide will kill the eggs, preventing the next generation of mosquitoes from hatching.
